'Something New' or 'Introducing the Read More Books Than Blogs Bookclub'

Not too long ago, I was assigned to write a prompt on writing. Free topic. Whatever we had to say about it. What I wrote, basically, was that if having to choose between never reading and writing again or having only gruel to eat for the rest of my life, I would take the lifetime supply of gruel. As most of you know, I love good food. I love good, quality food so much that I don't even know how to properly get that point across! And eating gruel for the rest of my life? There would be a lot of crying and bitterness as a result. BUT my mind would certainly dull and my thoughts would definitely dwindle down to include only sleeping, eating, working, and other superficial/surface details. I need reading in my life like I need breath in my body.

It's a noble idea, but really no one's actually asked me to choose between food and books, and my reading material lately has been more of blogs than classics. Well, NO MORE, MY FRIENDS! Time for books galore! I am going to be a reading fiend! Except... it would be so much more fun if I could have people reading along with me. Truth is, I love discussing. And it takes two to tango/discuss. Are you doing the same load of laundry as me? No? Yes? Or should I say, Will you be reading the same books as me?

What to read? Give me suggestions! What should I read? What have you been wanting to read? What looks good? The RMBTB posts will be put up roughly every three weeks, and include a complete look at the book in question. Wish me luck!

I Need Your Help!

I've begun working on my 18 Things to Do Before I Turn 18 List, and plan to have each thing done by August 31! That gives me about six months (the first six were spent dilly-dallying and generally not crossing things off lists)- and I need your help! Specifically, I could use some suggestions for books that jerk some tears. I've watched quite a few sad movies, but I feel like reading a book-turned-sad-movie (I'm looking at you, Nights in Rodanthe) would be cheating. For extra credit, I could also use a good recipe involving starfruit...

If you're more of the deal-making and trading type, I will trade you a heart-wrenching book recommendation for this list of very sad (in the emotional sense) movies:

Best Sad Movies From Least to Most Tears

6) Dear Frankie - I'm pretty sure I loved this movie mostly because it takes place in Ireland, but it is definitely a touching story, even if I don't remember the part where I cried...
5) Marley and Me - 5+4 are basically tied- this one made me sob, but Kelly says it didn't get her at all. Sometimes, it depends. Just know, I wasn't the only one crying at this one.
4) Love Happens - The part I'm referring to is brief, but man did it give me a good cry.
3) Click - Say what you will, even thought Adam Sandler is a comedian, this one had me and my sisters crying little rivers.
2) Nights in Rodanthe - The acting is really great, and the story of two strangers is enchanting
1) Million Dollar Baby - I watched this movie years ago, and I still remember it so well. It is a fantastic movie, and Clint Eastwood and Hilary Swank are great.

Most Emotional Beginnings to Movies EVER

1) Star Trek - If I told you any more, I'd spoil it!
2) UP
Remember to leave a recommendation!

Happy Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) everyone! Today I am thankful for food in French class, Lindt chocolates, my baking abilities (that lumpy chocolate pie wasn't so lumpy after all!), and really unique/great songs like this. :)

My Valentine's Day!

sugar cookies (made by Lilly) :)

Valentines (made by Kelly)

My valentine for Kelly

Wrapping up those pearls for Katie

Kelly: "I realized why there are lumps in your pie- it's the nuts."
Me: "But I didn't put nuts in the pie."

I know it sounds really funny slash revolting, but the pie actually tasted good, and the "lumps" were just clumps that didn't get smoothed out. Which is all fine, but still- next time, new recipe.

Valentine gift from Rich's mom

:)
Oh, and those pajama pants? A gift from my mom. :)
I love people!
How was your Valentine's Day?

Today I am thankful for chocolate, sweet thoughts, hugs, my family, and my boyfriend. Not to mention getting out of school on a Monday. Sweet relief every time.

'When I See Opportunity, I Take It' or 'This is What Blog Giveaways Do to Me'

The giveaway in question: is over at Not That Kind of Girl, for a communist-red ipod that TKOG won through her own bad dancing

I included pictures of myself dancing: because, sadly, I had nothing else planned for today, thought it would be fun (it was), and thought you'd have a good laugh from them (see? it's not just for me!).

I dance so bad: for reasons I am not aware of, though I think I got it from my dad.

The Scene: my living room. My hair is in that weird half-wet, half-dry stage after just being washed. Kelly is sitting on the couch, cordless phone balanced between her jaw and shoulder as she takes pictures of me, dancing my little heart out (see photos below).

The Verdict: Bad dancing is made better with added scarves and hats. I love dancing, but I keep it to a minimum around strangers for a reason. I will probably be keeping it that way, yes.

I love blog giveaways: because unlike with the lottery, they cost nothing and you are more likely to win one than be struck by lightning. Plus, it gives me something to get excited about. Please don't judge me.

Friday at Long Last!

The weekend we've all been so looking forward to is finally here. Hooray!
Before I go off to hang out with a friend and watch 'The Miracle Worker', I just wanted to say I hope you each have your own kind of good weekend. And by request, I've put a playlist back up. This week it'll be some of my favorite songs on my ipod: music from 'What a Girl Wants'. Also, I've changed my blog links to one list, with some different ones.
Enjoy!

Today I am thankful for the wonderful fortune I've been having lately. I won a giveaway. I got the part of Helen Keller in my school's production of The Miracle Worker. A nice lady at my school is always giving me treats (usually when I otherwise haven't had breakfast). I'm happy. I'm happy.

'Happy February!' or 'Chocolate Month is Here!'

A Small List of Things I Love About February:
1. All That Love
2. Chocolate
(Oh, all the chocolate.. )
3. Other Valentines' treats (like cupcakes and heart-shaped sugar cookies)
3. Heart-shaped sprinkles
4. Winter is that much closer to being over; excellent...
5. Hugs
6. Groundhog's Day, which is ridiculous, yet strangely right...
7. Cute, cheesy, funny, and thoughtful cards
8. Blood donations
(it goes along with the whole love&hearts theme; who knows, I might buck up the courage to give this month! We'll see...)
9. Most of all, spending time with my boyfriend and family (who do you think helps me bake and eat all of those heart-shaped cookies?)

Let's make this the best February yet. :)

Today I am thankful for saving the best stuff for later (in this case, a hazelnut cappuccino), coming home after a long day, and getting something special in the mail (I got that necklace from Enroute, at last- and it is so lovely and special).

What do you love about February?
