Independence Day and The Te of Piglet

original photo of the book that's had the librarians giving me the stink eye ever since it's been overdue (a couple of weeks)
A couple weeks ago, the book pictured above was due back to the public library. Alas, I could not return it because I had lost it, and after multiple ill-fated searches, I became half-convinced I would never find it. It was finally, today, after I had given up my active search that I found The Te of Piglet comfortably face-planted under my headboard (next to my cell phone, which is what I had really been looking for). I was very happy, and decided what-the-heck that I would pick up reading where my bookmark marked. And long story short, I'm very glad I did. This is just to say that I really think you would like this book, no matter who you are, because it is just That sort of book.

On an unrelated note, I'd like to add that I hope everyone had a nice Independence Day.

Lilly and I
I sure did, since I spent it with my family and Lilly and I commenced in an awesome game of naming chapters in the Harry Potter series off the top of our heads.
"The Deathly Hallows" "Snape's Revenge" "Snape's Revenge?! HAHAHA You mean the Flight of the Prince?" "HAHA Oh yeah."
...
"The Burrow!" "The Marauder's Map." "Nicholas Flamel" "The Chamber of Secrets" "Behind the Veil" "Oh, good one."

Ditto
And speaking of Harry Potter, I made a batch of butterbeer for the first time. I liked it, though it was a little too un-genuine (I doubt Mme Rosmerta used muggle cream soda in her recipe). I will be looking for other recipes, but it was a nice trial. :)

I Need Your Help!

I've begun working on my 18 Things to Do Before I Turn 18 List, and plan to have each thing done by August 31! That gives me about six months (the first six were spent dilly-dallying and generally not crossing things off lists)- and I need your help! Specifically, I could use some suggestions for books that jerk some tears. I've watched quite a few sad movies, but I feel like reading a book-turned-sad-movie (I'm looking at you, Nights in Rodanthe) would be cheating. For extra credit, I could also use a good recipe involving starfruit...

If you're more of the deal-making and trading type, I will trade you a heart-wrenching book recommendation for this list of very sad (in the emotional sense) movies:

Best Sad Movies From Least to Most Tears

6) Dear Frankie - I'm pretty sure I loved this movie mostly because it takes place in Ireland, but it is definitely a touching story, even if I don't remember the part where I cried...
5) Marley and Me - 5+4 are basically tied- this one made me sob, but Kelly says it didn't get her at all. Sometimes, it depends. Just know, I wasn't the only one crying at this one.
4) Love Happens - The part I'm referring to is brief, but man did it give me a good cry.
3) Click - Say what you will, even thought Adam Sandler is a comedian, this one had me and my sisters crying little rivers.
2) Nights in Rodanthe - The acting is really great, and the story of two strangers is enchanting
1) Million Dollar Baby - I watched this movie years ago, and I still remember it so well. It is a fantastic movie, and Clint Eastwood and Hilary Swank are great.

Most Emotional Beginnings to Movies EVER

1) Star Trek - If I told you any more, I'd spoil it!
2) UP
Remember to leave a recommendation!

Happy Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) everyone! Today I am thankful for food in French class, Lindt chocolates, my baking abilities (that lumpy chocolate pie wasn't so lumpy after all!), and really unique/great songs like this. :)

Happy Halloween

There are chances that the next few days will be post-less, due to work demands.
I hope all of you have a good Saturday and Halloween (if you're celebrating).

The Way I See It #5

"Your age is a measure of your experience. It doesn't measure anything else. Not wrinkles, or gray hairs. Not mobility or motivation (or knowledge, for that matter). Some people see a little bit of everything, and others see a lot of a little. But 22 years will never have as much experience as 23."

Bon Anniversaire, Kelly!

So moma came in my room talking at a level ten (completely uncalled for) and telling me what to do and who to help and where the table is going to be and the color of underwear I should be wearing for Kelly's birthday celebration.
I wake up, see Amy with her ice cream bar, point at her, say, "Good idea." and grab my own. Then we convene upstairs to wrap Kelly's gifts, one of which is a smiley bra marked 36C. I'm pretty sure moma only got this because it goes along with her smiley-face theme, because Kelly isn't a 36C. You know how I know? Because there's another bra too, marked B.

Flashback: One Christmas, I really wanted my own pet horse. I thought, I could keep it in the yard and ride it everyday. How great. On my Chirstmas list, I clearly wrote out, "HORSE." On Chistmas Morning, I opened my presents, one of them being a plastic horse for barbies. I was upset. I know they knew this isn't what I meant, so why? Oh, thanks for the crappy plastic horse I never wanted when you could have just not gotten me a live one and left it at that. Moral: this isn't the first time moma has completely ignored what we ask for and gotten us something she likes in its place.

Happy Independence Day!

It's days like last yesterday I really wish I had a camera. For the Fourth of July, Rich's family goes to the beach in Sheboygan and watches the fireworks. This was the first time in three weeks Rich has been back home, so I was welcomed to go along. At the beach, the water was freezing cold and Rich dropped me into the water twice. I splashed him and pushed him over into the chilled mid-thigh-deep water and then in a struggle I initiated to knock him over, I ended up falling into the water again. We got out after that because the water was at a temperature that slowed your limbs down drastically and therefore was not safe to be in. When we got back to the sandy spot Rich's family (His Grandma *Sorzee, her daughter Julie, Julie's husband Mark, their three kids, cousins Gino and Shawn, and his mom and step-dad) was taking up, Rich proceeded to bury me alive. I wanted him to do just my legs, like I had done to him earlier, but he managed to pin me down. I finally managed to escape his evil plot when he accidentally got sand in my mouth, distracting him long enough for my other limbs to wiggle their way free. I was coated in sand in a way very much like a cinnamon sugared graham cracker would be coated.
After that, we laid down our heads on my towel and relaxed while the sun came out a little more. When we did get back up, we put shoes and clothes back on to walk up to the lighthouse. We sat and talked a little about the boats and that mysterious building off in the fog before Rich's family joined us at the lighthouse (I guess they ran out of things to do, too) and we all walked back together. On the walk back along the strip through the water, we saw some duckies that were super cute! Me: "Look, seven babies and a mommy! It's just like my family!" Rich: "Where's the Daddy?" Me: "He's at work." Rich: "Oh yeah, it is like your family, the mommy is trying to take the food away from that little one." (One of the babies caught a little silver fish) We walked a little further and sure enough, on the side opposite the family of ducks was a daddy duck splashing in the water-"working". It was funny.
We braved the water again before we ate dinner. As agreed, there was no more splashing or pushing. So we slow danced in knee deep water. When he went to spin me, I splashed through the water clumsily and thudded back into him. The second time was much smoother.
For dinner, Chris made tender and meaty brisket. And for dessert Rich's mom made 'Berry Tiramasu'; delicious, fluffy shortcake with raspberries, blueberries, and whipped cream. I want more just thinking of it.
We played with some little explosives Rich brought called 'snaps'. You take one between your thumb and finger and make like you're snapping and it explodes with a little fiery pop. Rich and I pooled our money together so I could get a $10 light-up sword-slash-light saber for $9. My souvenir from my first holiday with Rich (besides Valentine's Day).
The fireworks took place on the end of the beach and towards the end, it was so smoky from the explosions and all the fire's people had set up that you could only hear the fireworks. But it was okay. I can remember watching fireworks in Hartford in years past wondering when I would be able to watch them with a boyfriend, and so it was really great as that goes.
Well, there was no string cheese, or cheese curds. Or cupcakes with white frosting and blue and red sprinkles. But I didn't even miss those things, and it was the best way to spend the day with Rich before he went back to camp. So, all in all,
great day.
